Carissime Amiche e Carissimi Amici,

nel mese di marzo, ci troviamo a riflettere su un tema centrale per la nostra missione rotariana: l’Acqua, i Servizi Igienici e Igiene.

Ricorderete tutti che il motto dell’anno scelto dalla nostra presidente internazionale Stephanie, la Magia del Rotary, è nato proprio quando un bambino le ha chiesto come fosse possibile che acqua sporca diventasse acqua pulita, passando attraverso un filtro.
Era una vera e propria Magia. Qualcosa che cambiava la vita di quel bambino.

Marzo pone l’attenzione su questa tematica cruciale, ricordandoci che l’accesso all’acqua pulita e ai servizi sanitari è un diritto fonda mentale e una leva essenziale per lo sviluppo sociale ed economico delle comunità.  L’acqua è vita.  Eppure, ancora oggi, milioni di persone nel mondo non hanno accesso a fonti d’acqua sicure, con conseguenze devastanti sulla salute, sull’educazione e sulle opportunità economiche.

Come rotariani, abbiamo la responsabilità di contribuire alla soluzione di questa crisi attraverso progetti concreti, sensibilizzazione e collaborazione con le comunità locali.

Il nostro Distretto 2110, nel corso degli anni, ha sostenuto numerosi interventi per garantire l’accesso all’acqua pulita e migliorare le condizioni igienico-sanitarie nelle nostre comunità vicine e in quelle lontane. E quest’anno abbiamo incrementato questo impegno con importanti progetti distrettuali: “Adotta l’Oro Blu”, “Gigi e l’Acqua” e “G.O.P.I.L” (Game Over Plastic – Isole Libere). Vi esorto dunque ad incrementare in questo mese il nostro sforzo per tutelare e salvaguardare l’acqua: abbiamo il dovere di continuare ad investire in progetti sostenibili, diffondendo una cultura di rispetto per questa risorsa tanto preziosa.

Il mese scorso è stato denso di iniziative e celebrazioni, che hanno visto, ancora una volta, una straordinaria partecipazione da parte dei nostri soci:

  • il Seminario sulla Leadership e sulla Comunicazione del 16 Febbraio a Palermo: un grande successo, con relatori di alto profilo;
  • la Conferenza Internazionale sulla Pace “Guarire in un mondo diviso” dal 20 al 22 Febbraio, ad Istanbul. Nell’occasione oltre 40 rotariani del nostro Distretto vi hanno preso parte, rafforzando il nostro impegno nella costruzione di un mondo più giusto e armonioso;
  • il Rotary Day il 23 febbraio, nel quale abbiamo festeggiato i 120 di storia del Rotary International.

E infine le Celebrazioni per il Centenario del Rotary a Palermo e in Sicilia-Malta appena svoltesi il 28 Febbraio e 1Marzo al Teatro Massimo di Palermo: si è trattato di momento storico per il nostro Distretto! Assieme al Club Palermo abbiamo tutti insieme celebrato i 100 anni di presenza del Rotary in Sicilia e Malta, con eventi che hanno visto la partecipazione di relatori di grande prestigio: un’occasione per onorare il passato e guardare con entusiasmo e rinnovati intenti al futuro.

Anche a Marzo ci attendono altri appuntamenti distrettuali importanti:

  • il 15 Marzo a Enna il Seminario su ECR e Membership: una giornata di formazione e confronto per rafforzare il senso di appartenenza e l’efficacia del nostro operato. Con riferimento alla membership sono lieto di informarvi che lo scorso 11 febbraio abbiamo ricevuto dal RI la carta costitutiva di un nuovo club nel nostro Distretto 2110: si tratta di un club di causa dal nome Rotary Club Catania Europa – Etica e Legalità: ai 34 soci fondatori dò il benvenuto! Complessivamente ad oggi il numero dei soci nel nostro distretto è in crescita di +126 unità da inizio anno, grazie all’impegno dei Club che state ponendo una attenzione particolare anche nel riattrarre i buoni rotariani che negli anni precedenti abbiamo perduto per varie ragioni (progetto  “Rotary Back-Home”), e , attraverso l’applicazione del piano di azione, promuovendo una adeguata “esperienza di club”  per i soci, allo scopo di creare coinvolgimento, e cercando di limitare il fenomeno delle “porte girevoli”;
  • il 21 Marzo a Catania condivideremo assieme all’International Inner Wheel D211 l’evento con il testimonial del progetto SOS Api Plus 2.0 Lorenzo Licitra.

Infine il 22-23 marzo a Enna si svolgeranno i seminari di formazione SISD e SIAG 2025-2026, e colgo l’occasione per congratularmi con quanti saranno coinvolti, augurando al DGE Malizia, al suo Staff e a tutti voi una proficua sessione di formazione.

Prima di concludere, ho il piacere di comunicarvi che le contribuzioni alla Rotary Foundation da parte dei Club stanno procedendo in modo soddisfacente: a tal riguardo chiedo a tutti i soci e ai Club in particolare di fare uno sforzo ulteriore in questo mese finalizzando quanto più possibile le contribuzioni, in modo da cercare già in questo mese di traguardare gli obiettivi minimi prefissati (100$ pro-capite al Fondo Annuale e 25$ pro-capite al Fondo Polio Plus).

In conclusione: continua il nostro Impegno per un Futuro Sostenibile, testimoniando che il Rotary non è solo azione, ma anche visione e responsabilità verso il mondo che ci circonda, ricordandoci che ogni goccia conta, e che ogni azione ha un impatto.

Grazie per il vostro impegno costante.  Il Rotary è forte perché noi siamo il Rotary.

Governor’s letter_march 2025

Dear Friends,

In the month of March, we find ourselves reflecting on a central theme for our Rotary mission: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

You will all remember that the motto of the year chosen by our international president Stephanie, the Magic of Rotary, was born when a child asked her how it was possible for dirty water to become clean water, passing through a filter.

It was real Magic. Something that changed the life of that child.

March focuses on this crucial issue, reminding us that access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental right and an essential lever for the social and economic development of communities. Water is life. Yet, even today, millions of people in the world do not have access to safe water sources, with devastating consequences for health, education and economic opportunities.

As Rotarians, we have the responsibility to contribute to the solution of this crisis through concrete projects, awareness and collaboration with local communities.

Over the years, our District 2110 has supported numerous interventions to ensure access to clean water and improve sanitation conditions in our nearby and distant communities. And this year we have increased this commitment with important district projects: “Adotta l’Oro Blu”, “Gigi e l’Acqua” and “G.O.P.I.L” (Game Over Plastic – Isole Libere). I therefore urge you to increase our efforts to protect and safeguard water this month: we have a duty to continue investing in sustainable projects, spreading a culture of respect for this precious resource.

Last month was full of initiatives and celebrations, which saw, once again, an extraordinary participation from our members:

– the Leadership and Communication Seminar on February 16 in Palermo: a great success, with high-profile speakers;

– the International Peace Conference “Healing in a Divided World” from 20 to 22 February, in Istanbul. On this occasion, over 40 Rotarians from our District took part, strengthening our commitment to building a more just and harmonious world;

– Rotary Day on 23 February, in which we celebrated 120 years of history of Rotary International.

And finally, the Celebrations for the Centenary of Rotary in Palermo and Sicily-Malta just held on 28 February and 1 March at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo: it was a historic moment for our District! Together with the Palermo Club, we all celebrated 100 years of Rotary presence in Sicily and Malta, with events that saw the participation of highly prestigious speakers: an opportunity to honor the past and look with enthusiasm and renewed intent to the future.

Also in March, other important district events await us:

– on March 15th in Enna, the Seminar on ECR and Membership: a day of training and discussion to strengthen the sense of belonging and the effectiveness of our work. With reference to membership, I am pleased to inform you that last February 11th we received from RI the charter of a new club in our District 2110: it is a club of cause called Rotary Club Catania Europa – Ethics and Legality: I welcome the 34 founding members! Overall, to date, the number of members in our district has grown by +126 units since the beginning of the year, thanks to the commitment of the Clubs that are paying particular attention also to re-attracting good Rotarians that we have lost in previous years for various reasons (the “Rotary Back-Home” project), and, through the application of the action plan, promoting an adequate “club experience” for members, with the aim of creating involvement, and trying to limit the phenomenon of “revolving doors”;

– on March 21st in Catania we will share with the International Inner Wheel D211 the event with the testimonial of the SOS Api Plus 2.0 project Lorenzo Licitra.

Finally, on March 22nd-23rd in Enna the SISD and SIAG 2025-2026 training seminars will take place, and I take this opportunity to congratulate those who will be involved, wishing DGE Malizia, his Staff and all of you a fruitful training session.

Before concluding, I am pleased to inform you that the contributions to the Rotary Foundation by the Clubs are proceeding satisfactorily: in this regard, I ask all members and the Clubs in particular to make an extra effort this month by finalizing the contributions as much as possible, so as to try to reach the minimum objectives set this month (100$ per capita to the Annual Fund and 25$ per capita to the Polio Plus Fund).

In conclusion: our Commitment to a Sustainable Future continues, testifying that Rotary is not only action, but also vision and responsibility towards the world around us, reminding us that every drop counts, and that every action has an impact.
