Carissime Amiche e carissimi Amici,

desidero ringraziarvi per le tante iniziative e i progetti con i quali avete arricchito il mese di gennaio: grazie per il vostro entusiasmo e la vostra dedizione!

A livello distrettuale, lo scorso 26 gennaio, presso il Bosco di Santo Pietro, abbiamo vissuto un momento di straordinaria emozione con l’inaugurazione dell’Apiario e del Giardino Nettarifero del Distretto Rotary 2110, intitolato alla memoria del PDG Gaetano De Bernardis, iniziatore di questo rilevante progetto. Quest’anno l’iniziativa è stata sviluppata in sinergia con l’International Inner Wheel Distretto 211 “Governatrice Lella Pavone”, con l’Assessorato della Regione Sicilia alla Agricoltura, con l’apicoltore Cannizzaro, con l’associazione Ramarro e la cooperativa Ciclamino. Abbiamo vissuto questo momento importante assieme alla cara Emilia e alla famiglia De Bernardis tutta. La presenza di oltre 300 rotariani, tra cui numerosi presidenti di Club Rotary ed InnerWheel, ha testimoniato quanto il nostro impegno per la sostenibilità e l’ambiente possa coinvolgere e unire. Voglio esprimere un sincero ringraziamento a tutti i componenti della apposita Commissione SOS Api plus 2.0, al suo presidente Luigi Loggia, per il loro instancabile lavoro, e a tutti i Club del Distretto che con entusiasmo hanno aderito; ringrazio inoltre per la loro partecipazione le Fellowship rotariane, che hanno dato ulteriore valore a questo evento.

Un’altra iniziativa di elevata rilevanza è stato il Convegno Interdistrettuale Rotary a Palazzo Madama a Roma, tenutosi il 31 gennaio e promosso dal nostro Distretto 2110 in partnership con l’Associazione Nazionale Antimafia “Alfredo Agosta” , con altri 9 Distretti italiani e con il Senato della Repubblica Italiana . Il tema affrontato, “Difendere il PNRR: Legalità e Trasparenza”, ci ha permesso di riflettere su come il Rotary possa e debba essere parte attiva nella promozione di una gestione trasparente e responsabile delle risorse pubbliche, e come debba fungere da ponte tra le Istituzioni e la comunità civile. La partecipazione a Roma di oltre 80 rotariani del nostro Distretto ha dimostrato il nostro profondo coinvolgimento per temi di rilevanza nazionale, offrendo spunti preziosi per un impegno collettivo sempre più incisivo. Nell’occasione il Senatore Questore Anziano di Palazzo Madama, on. Antonio De Poli ci ha amabilmente accolti mostrandosi entusiasta della nostra iniziativa.

Gennaio è stato inoltre un mese importante per la continuità del nostro distretto: lo scorso giorno 12 è stato designato il Governatore per l’anno 2027-2028.
La apposita Commissione ha individuato per questo incarico l’amico Casimiro Gaetano Castronovo; a lui vanno i migliori auguri di buon Rotary, certi che saprà guidare il nostro Distretto con passione e dedizione: tutti noi non gli faremo mancare il nostro supporto.

Febbraio è il mese che il Rotary International dedica alla Costruzione della Pace e alla Prevenzione dei Conflitti e ci invita a riflettere sull’importanza del dialogo e della collaborazione per promuovere una società più giusta, equa e pacifica.
Questo tema, così centrale nella nostra missione rotariana, ci richiama non solo all’impegno verso il mondo, ma anche al rafforzamento dei valori di unità e servizio che ci contraddistinguono.

Quest’anno abbiamo abbracciato l’impegno per la Costruzione della Pace con particolare determinazione attraverso numerosi progetti che stanno lasciando un segno profondo:

  • Il progetto “Steli della Pace”, simbolo del nostro anno di servizio, è un esempio straordinario di come il Rotary sappia creare un’eredità duratura nelle comunità. La realizzazione di queste opere ci ricorda che la pace è un pilastro universale e irrinunciabile.
  • Il progetto “Adottiamo una Scuola per la Pace in Terrasanta” proposto da Ivana, grazie alla vostra generosità e alla partnership con la Luogotenenza di Sicilia dell’Ordine Equestre del Santo Sepolcro di Gerusalemme ci ha già consentito di dotare di lavagne interattive la scuola di Hashimi Shamali ad Amman in Giordania, favorendo così un’istruzione inclusiva e di qualità per i giovani che rappresentano il futuro.
  • La adesione alla rete dei Peace Builder Club dimostra infine come i Club del Distretto siano attivamente impegnati in un percorso concreto per diffondere i valori di pace e cooperazione, non solo a livello locale, ma anche su scala internazionale.

Grazie a ciascuno di voi, il nostro Distretto si distingue per un impegno che va oltre le parole, trasformandosi in azioni che costruiscono ponti, educano alla tolleranza e creano speranza.

Febbraio ci offre nuove opportunità per incontrarci e lavorare insieme:

  • 16 febbraio: Seminario su Effettivo, Comunicazione e Rotary Foundation (ECR), a Palermo.
    Sarà un’occasione preziosa per approfondire strategie utili a rafforzare la nostra presenza sul territorio e migliorare la comunicazione delle nostre iniziative.
  • 20-22 febbraio: Conferenza Internazionale sulla Pace, a Istanbul.
    Un evento globale che ci darà l’opportunità di confrontarci con rotariani di tutto il mondo sul ruolo del Rotary nella promozione della pace. Porteremo la voce del nostro Distretto anche su questo palcoscenico internazionale.
  • 23 febbraio: Rotary Day, una giornata speciale nella quale ricorderemo alle nostre comunità il giorno della fondazione del Rotary, a Chicago ad opera di Paul Harris e di altri tre suoi amici. Quest’anno celebreremo il 120esimo anniversario dalla fondazione del Rotary International.
  • 28 febbraio-1 marzo: Celebrazione dei 100 anni di Rotary a Palermo e in Sicilia-Malta; si tratta di un memorabile evento che condivideremo nel magico contesto del Teatro Massimo di Palermo.

Concludo questa lettera con un pensiero di soddisfazione per tutto ciò che abbiamo costruito insieme fino ad oggi, consapevoli che il futuro si nutre delle radici che ogni azione e ogni progetto pianta nel nostro presente: il mese di febbraio ci sfida ad essere ancora più incisivi nel nostro lavoro per la pace certi che ogni iniziativa, ogni gesto di servizio, per quanto piccolo, contribuisce a creare un mondo migliore, più pacifico e inclusivo e può avere un impatto duraturo.

Continuiamo dunque a credere con entusiasmo e determinazione nella forza del Rotary come motore di cambiamento e di speranza.
Restiamo uniti, collaboriamo e guardiamo avanti con fiducia e determinazione.
Il Distretto Rotary 2110 continua ad essere un esempio di leadership, innovazione e passione!

Letter of the month, February 2025

Dear Friends,

I would like to thank you for the many initiatives and projects with which you have enriched the month of January: thank you for your enthusiasm and dedication!

At the district level, last January 26, at the Bosco di Santo Pietro, we experienced a moment of extraordinary emotion with the inauguration of the Apiary and the Nectariferous Garden of the Rotary District 2110, named in memory of PDG Gaetano De Bernardis, initiator of this important project. This year the initiative was developed in synergy with the International Inner Wheel District 211, with the Department of Agriculture of the Sicily Region, with the beekeeper Cannizzaro, with the Ramarro association and the Ciclamino cooperative. We experienced this important moment together with dear Emilia and the entire De Bernardis family. The presence of over 300 Rotarians, including numerous presidents of Rotary and InnerWheel Clubs, demonstrated how our commitment to sustainability and the environment can involve and unite. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the members of the dedicated SOS Api plus 2.0 Commission, to its president Luigi Loggia, for their tireless work, and to all the District Clubs who enthusiastically joined; I would also like to thank the Rotary Fellowships for their participation, which gave further value to this event.

Another highly significant initiative was the Rotary Interdistrict Conference at Palazzo Madama in Rome, held on January 31 and promoted by our District 2110 in partnership with the National Anti-Mafia Association “Alfredo Agosta”, with 9 other Italian Districts and with the Senate of the Italian Republic. The topic addressed, “Defending the PNRR: Legality and Transparency”, allowed us to reflect on how Rotary can and should be an active part in promoting transparent and responsible management of public resources, and how it should act as a bridge between the institutions and the civil community. The participation in Rome of over 80 Rotarians from our District demonstrated our deep involvement in issues of national relevance, offering valuable ideas for an increasingly incisive collective commitment.

On this occasion, the Senator Questore Anziano of Palazzo Madama, Hon. Antonio De Poli kindly welcomed us, showing enthusiasm for our initiative.

January was also an important month for the continuity of our district: last day 12 the Governor for the year 2027-2028 was designated.

The appropriate Commission has identified our friend Casimiro Gaetano Castronovo for this role; We wish him all the best for Rotary, certain that he will be able to lead our District with passion and dedication: all of us will not fail to support him.

February is the month that Rotary International dedicates to Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention and invites us to reflect on the importance of dialogue and collaboration to promote a more just, equitable and peaceful society.

This theme, so central to our Rotary mission, calls us not only to our commitment to the world, but also to the strengthening of the values ​​of unity and service that distinguish us.

This year we have embraced the commitment to Peacebuilding with particular determination through numerous projects that are leaving a profound mark:

• The “Stems of Peace” project, symbol of our year of service, is an extraordinary example of how Rotary knows how to create a lasting legacy in communities. The creation of these works reminds us that peace is a universal and indispensable pillar.

• The project “Adopt a School for Peace in the Holy Land” proposed by Ivana, thanks to your generosity and the partnership with the Lieutenancy of Sicily of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem has already allowed us to equip the Hashimi Shamali school in Amman, Jordan, with interactive whiteboards, thus promoting inclusive and quality education for young people who represent the future.

• Finally, joining the Peace Builder Club network demonstrates how the District Clubs are actively engaged in a concrete path to spread the values ​​of peace and cooperation, not only at a local level, but also on an international scale.

Thanks to each of you, our District stands out for a commitment that goes beyond words, transforming itself into actions that build bridges, educate in tolerance and create hope.

February offers us new opportunities to meet and work together:

  • February 16: Seminar on Leadership and Communication in Palermo.

It will be a precious opportunity to explore strategies useful for strengthening our presence in the area and improving the communication of our initiatives.

  • February 20-22: International Peace Conference, Istanbul A global event that will give us the opportunity to discuss with Rotarians from all over the world the role of Rotary in promoting peace. We will bring the voice of our District to this international stage too.
  • February 23: Rotary Day, a special day in which we will remind our communities of the day of Rotary’s founding, in Chicago by Paul Harris and three other friends of his. This year we will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the founding of Rotary International.
  • February 28 – March 1: Celebration of 100 years of Rotary in Palermo and Sicily-Malta; it is a memorable event that we will share in the magical context of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

I conclude this letter with a thought of satisfaction for everything we have built together to date, aware that the future is nourished by the roots that every action and every project plants in our present: the month of February challenges us to be even more incisive in our work for peace, certain that every initiative, every gesture of service, however small, contributes to creating a better, more peaceful and inclusive world and can have a lasting impact.

Let us therefore continue to believe with enthusiasm and determination in the power of Rotary as an engine of change and hope. Let us remain united, collaborate and look forward with confidence and determination.
